Biography

Praised for her "rich tone and bell clear diction" (Bachtrack, 2019) and her "plucky, sympathetic characters" (Opera News, 2019), American mezzo soprano Kayla Siembieda is quickly making an impact in the operatic world. As a 2018 and 2019 Young Artist at The Glimmerglass Festival, she performed the roles of Susanna in John Corligliano's The Ghosts of Versailles, Forester's Wife/Owl in The Cunning Little Vixen, and Madeleine Audebert in Kevin Puts' Silent Night. In December of 2019, she traveled with Glimmerglass to Versailles, France where she reprised the role of Susanna in The Ghosts of Versailles at the Château de Versailles. This production was published on CD and DVD with 'Presto Music' and is available for purchase here.

Ms. Siembieda holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Lawrence University and a Masters of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Louisiana State University, During her studies, where she performed roles including: Olga in Eugene Onegin, Baba the Turk in The Rake's Progress, Mistress Quickly in Falstaff, Ilona Ritter in She Loves Me, Marcellina in Le nozze di Figaro; and Mrs. Peachum in Die Dreigroschenoper. She has recently completed a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance and Arts Administrations at LSU, where she  performed the title role in Kevin Put's Elizabeth Cree and Madame Croissy in Dialogues des Carmélites.

 

Additional performances include: The Third Lady in The Magic Flute, Ericlea in Ulysses and Berta in Il baribere di Siviglia with Opéra Louisiane; and the alto soloist in Handel's Messiah with The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2020, Ms. Siembieda performed La Zia Principessa in Suor Angelica with Heartland Opera in Joplin, Missouri.
